The triple Hs of the season are here, and outside of swimming in the pool or enjoying an icy margarita, the best cure is a big scoop—or two—of gelato.

Why gelato? Trust us; we have nothing against ice cream. But gelato—a beyond satisfying blend of milk, cream, sugar and flavorings—has a heavenly richness and density; yet it’s generally lower in fat and calories than many classic offerings of ice cream.

At each Taste store across Coastal Virginia, a case of the good stuff, made by Confetti Cafe in Virginia Beach’s Town Center, is scooped out to be enjoyed in the store, on the go or for later in take-out containers.

“Handcrafted in small batches, the intense flavors come alive from the natural ingredients,” says Rebecca Danchise Topping, the gourmet grocer’s director of marketing and community engagement.

According to Topping, the top flavors this season are Belgian Chocolate Chip, Coffee Crunch, Mint Chip, Pistachio, Sea Salt Caramel and Vanilla Bean.

“Best of all, our gelato has about 100 fewer calories in a small serving than regular ice cream,” she says.

Plus, it’s just so gosh darn cosmopolitan, what with its Italian pedigree and all.
